Check the prices on a new Classic with say 2 MEGs of RAM and a 40 MEG hard drive. You might be surprised at how inexpensive you might find one. Next I would check on the prices for used Macs. Whatever you may think of the prices you find, I'd still recommend against the upgrade. The cost of an upgrade to a Plus will be about the same as the Classic new (especially if you can find a friend with an educational discount to buy it for you: $800.00 w/o Hard Drive). Also, a Classic is really an SE sans the SE slot, so you will have a faster machine. Also, a Classic comes bundled with HyperCard 2.0, and is designed with the newest operating system (6.0.x and 7.0) in mind., so you get the nifty features of the new sound manager and MS-DOS compatable floppy drive and so on. Thanx. > Wilmanric By the time you by all the things you need for an upgrade you wil have spent almost as much as it would cost you to by a new Mac classic and more that it would cost to by a used Mac Plus or SE. You will also have a machine which may have problems in the future. I had the same problem when I had an unterminated Daisey Chain. As to finding the specific problem, you may have to use one of the RAM testing utilities. A wife of a serviceman in the Gulf called me today and said she heard on the news about "Saudinet". This is supposidly an E-Mail service for people stationed in the Gulf. She wanted to know which commercial services offered "Saudinet". I belong to both "America Online" and "Prodigy". Neither services have this item. Does anyone know who is offering "Saudinet"? I would appreciate any of you "Compuserve", "Genie", etc. members letting me know. My friend has an IBM and a Modem and would be glad to join whatever service offered this feature. Thanks. You do not have to be a GEnie subscriber to use the service to send letters to Saudi Arabia free of charge, using a local telephnone number. I can't say I've noticed an improvement in speed. Seems speedier, but the sense of expectation is to strong to make me objective. I think I know but don't know for sure. Basically I don't think a file should be uplaoded unless one knows and can say what will read it. To send a Letter From Home, an individual will need to know the Name & Rank, Social Security #, Unit or Ship and APO or FPO of the recipient. What would that tell you? How about 10? Why didn't you ask for anyone not having problems to let you know? Anyhow, ready or not I am using 6.0.7 on an SE 30 with no problems. Admitedly, not an exciting set up with lots of use so far. But anyhow here's one that's one having no problems.
